Portfolio Interface Comp by Indigo76 Portfolio Interface Comp by Indigo76
Hey guys!

As most of you know, this is my graduating quarter for my Bachelors degree in Multimedia & Web Design.
To graduate, I must pull together a portfolio site to represent my accumulated body of work.
I have 7 weeks left to get this right and I am calling on you to help me make some decisions with the overall look of the interface.

*The site is 1024 x 768 and White(The old version was Black)

This is a comp I have assembled in photoshop of what the Photo Gallery will look like more or less.
I am entertaining the idea of using some kind of "Lightbox" feature to display the photos, but I am still trying to figure it out. (any ideas?)

Please let me know what you think, I am looking for any input you may have.

"Cheers!":ahoy:

Only i get confused by reading the menu... maybe the shadow is slighty too much. But it's not like a big deal, you are doing so good!!

Nice. With such photos like those you should have best degree :)

IMO you should make bigger photos [about size like 4, on this pic]. Bigger photos looks better [more details], and draws someone's attention on photo more than little thumb.
When photos are monochroma on little thumb they look like splash and visitor can't notice any known shape.
[Arrr it's hard for me to explain it ]. Anyways.... I catched myself on it :) I'm not paying much attention on small photos. On bigger ones I'm focusing on few of them, becouse I saw something interesting in details ;]

I really like the lay out. It remind of my own AP profilo I did in high school. I like the slide sheet look as you can see all the work and then go and click on what catched the person's eye that is looking. It can be hard when doing like a "slide show" only view one shot at a time because can lose the person's intrest. Best of luck.

I know you were trying to achieve a different look with this one...and I like it! I did read what Sandra wrote and realized that, "Yeah...you did venture from the traditional Indigoverse font"...are you thinking about reincorporating that? I like the mountains as this is a photo you have taken and this is your photo gallery. It fills in that void you mentioned...not sure what the B&W would look like as others have suggested.

 I don't know...I am glad you put it up seems like lots of great feedback. I am just simply biased to anything you do and think it is ALL beautiful! But with each rendition you show me...I am always more impressed and like that too! :giggle: Can't wait to see what the final outcome is! :D

No, I have to keep to clean for a more "corporate" look.
Either way, I will probably go with the new look, cause it does
have a nice flow to it ;)
I may just remove it and fill it with a subtle graphic :aww:
Thank you Aimee
I will get it to work soon enough, All the feedback is Definitely
Awesome to have! =D

I think the layout works but i have a suggestion about the photo arrangement specifically... I would lay out the photos so that even as thumb nails look organised... *specifically the beach shots that are the second half of the top row and the first half of the second row...i would rearrange them so that they were all on the same row.

not necessarily a pattern but breaking up the colour and black and whites so that visual interest is maximised :D

**if someone already said this sorry... i didn't read all the other comments**
definitely looks good though

Thank you, the photos are just randomly placed
for sample, but I see what you mean. =D
I will definitely keep that in mind as I make further
progress on the arrangement.
No worries, the more similar feedback I get, the better the
influence to reconsider my layout decisions, so Thank you
so much for the Feedback Jenn!

Hey Indigo, I do like this! I think its a good site for your photography, I do wonder what might happen when you want to put more and more photos in there, will it keep scrolling down? It could become quite difficult to navigate if thats the case.

I do agree with ~chalutplease about the mountain shot not being your style but I also think it goes with the layout of the page and really you get the idea of you style from the photos on there, nobody is going to look at the banner that hard!

Hope that helps!

Hey Indi. I see you aren't procrastinating like I am. Good for you.

I don't know much about these things but I do know there can be restrictions and maybe that's the case but I have to say that I was disappointed not to see the name of the company in the font that we're used to. It's your signature look and would stand out more so that people would recognize you without needing to read! We're pretty lazy when it comes to that. I felt like the mountains on the banner weren't quite your style either. They just don't have the punch that I associate with you.

The layout of the pictures is good though and I like that you've chosen some lighter ones to mix in with the others as well as multiple subject matter so that right away we see versatility in what you do. I also love the three that are second row left where you have someone jumping over the sunset/sunrise and the horizon lines up, although my favorite series in your work is the zebra rolling.

Not sure if that's what you were looking for and it's just my opinion.

Good luck with it and I look forward to the revisions.

No worries Sandra, Thank you very much!
I know what you mean about the mountain, I tried
leaving it out, but there was too much negative space there...
I had a powerful urge to place something there, but I think
you're right, the mountains are not really me and perhaps
the image is too powerful which distracts away from the body
of work first...
I will remove it and play with a very subtle design kind of like
the one on the bottom left...
Definitely giving me much to reconsider, I love you guys!
the rest of the class is still working on the identity branding,
so I thought I'd go way passed that...lol!

I agree with your thoughts about needing something where the mountain is but I don't think it's something as subtle as the bottom left corner (which I do love everything about). I was thinking more about something like the button after the company name on the banner. It's strong and unique but not colorful like the pictures. It would ground it without taking away from them I think and balance the banner. Even if it had a sharp left edge and then faded away as it went to the right I think it could accomplish the same thing without overpowering.

Now how about helping me dissect a story for my lit class?!

I think it looks good how you got it, but little extra attention to detail makes all the differance, when I full viewed it I kept trying to click on the image to enlarge them forgetting its a copy...:giggle:
Well am not very good at technical things but I can give you my opinion if it helps any :D

One question, I see the pictures are fading at the bottom does that emphasize that the pictures can scroll? - if not, as a viewer my suggestions would be, to have the picture in a scroll box rather than take the whole page up.... I think it would stop the page from looking so flat and give it more depth.. adjust the box slightly smaller than the page would leave room for, advertising or comment or photography tips, underneath to keep the view wanting or reasons to want come back.

Also I would prefer to be able to view the image's individualy, so making each image a thumb to click on to enlarge them would work well... then have a choice in the enlarged image whether they want to continue to next imges or close window. It gives the viewer a choice at what picture they view, rather than have to scroll through them all.

I am not sure how much work that would be in coding it, but I have a code for a scroll box from a web site I use to list all of my music in, if you want any ideas on how to do it..
Other than that cant think of anything that you would not already know...

but well done for doing a great page and good luck with the presentation in 7wks. I am sure you will do well :D

Thank you for the feedback BrightStar! :aww:
The idea about the photos scrolling is a good idea,
but I can't use a scroll box, It's a big no no with
the instructors, however scrolling with JavaScript/Action Script 3.0
would be the best, So yes on Scrolling, but without the scroll box ;P
As for the space, I will not have any Ads, Tips or comments because
of the nature of the site.
It's just a portfolio with my body of work, however I have a friend
who is helping me build a site that those elements would be perfect for. =D
Thank you again, and I will definitely be using the scroll feature :ahoy:

I really have very little experience at web designing but.....Can't really find anything bad to complain :) it is clear and simple - perfect! (keep it that way)

I have one single suggestion though. Would it be better if the text field would be in different color? (you seem to have lots of white, black and blue...but Im not sure if grey works well with that)

Yours,
Aki :#1:

Hmmm, Definitely something to consider, Thank you Aki...
I'm trying to go for White & Greys in the key design
with black fonts to make easier for reading.
The Blues are the splash of color that I was considering,
but I will have to give it more thought...
Thank you so much for the feedback my friend! =D

I feel the mountain scene on the header should be black and white. Also as an idea, have on the left thumbnails of the gallery and on the right text. In the middle the image will appear that which is under the cursor of the thumbnail menu.

[header links to other pages no scrolling]

[ h e a d e r w i l l g o h e r e ]

[thumbs] [main image] [text]

[footed links to other pages no scrolling]

Woah!...:wow:

Your recommendation:
[thumbs] [main image] [text]
This is identical in the layout of my previous site I had,

(we are definitely on the same thinking here ;P)
Which makes me want to keep that idea.

I very much agree about the "no scrolling"
and I must definitely install the footer links ;)
-"So what you're saying is to mirror the links on the bottom as well?"
because I totally agree ;P

Thank you so much Mr. Perry, this is valuable advice my friend! =D
